More About Cedar Roof Restoration:
STA BRITE® R is a pigmented, water-repellant, weather resistant treatment that is specifically formulated to provide lasting protection to cedar wood roofs, siding and fencing from elemental forces.
Its natural earth-derived pigment system and additional protectants shield the wood from ultraviolet (UV) light, ultimately increasing wood surface life by preventing erosion and deterioration caused by harsh sunlight. The treatment's mild bleaching properties also help prevent build-up of wood surface stains. Re-treating every three to five years will keep the wood beautiful, solid and intact.
Sta Brite R contains no heavy mineral or lubricating oils which may have an offensive odor and, when vaporized, represent an environmental hazard. Instead, Sta Brite R prevents the splitting and checking of wood by limiting water infiltration and harmful sunlight. It is designed to work with the sun by reflecting harmful rays while simultaneously utilizing the sun's natural bleaching qualities to prevent unsightly stains.
The Maintenance Myth:
Although naturally occurring extractives make cedar more durable than other wood species, it is not immune to rapid discoloration from exposure to sunlight and moisture -induced degradation. Unfortunately, many property owners are led to believe that cedar / shake roofs and other exposed d surfaces are relatively “maintenance-free” or that no worthwhile remedial treatment is available.
The Solution:
In 1989, after eight years of field-testing and evaluation, we introduced Sta Brite®R a major advancement in water-based technology for restoring and beautifying exterior roofs. Sold through professional applicators, Sta Brite R is presently the leading water based roof treatment product in the US. Available in two colors, brown and weathering gray, this weather-resistant and water-repellant treatment provides a natural looking durable, semi-transparent stain finish. The waxy surface film supports a superior UV resistant pigment system while allowing the wood to expand and contract naturally during weather and temperature changes. This unique treatment holds up to sun, wind, and water long after other coatings allow moisture penetration and subsequent decay, mold and fungal growths that flourish in a moist environment.
Environmental Responsibility:
Exterior wood treatment products are either oil-based or water-based. Proponents of oil-based products may claim that oil systems do a better job of controlling cupping and warping by replenishing the natural oils in wood. Since these natural oils account for less than three percent of the total mass, there is not much validity to the concept of oil replacement. Both types of products can protect wood by preventing and controlling the degrading action of moisture, air pollution and sunlight.
In recent years, however, government regulators have moved to decrease the amount of volatile organic emissions (VOC’s) evaporating into our air. Many of the oil based roof treatment products contributed to the air pollution and have been re-formulated to reduce emissions of VOC’s – in many cases compromising their original effectiveness. Other oil-based products are limited due to their potential fire hazards.
Beauty And Protection That Lasts:
The renewed look and attractive appearance of a Sta Bite®R treated roof will last many years without concern for VOC missions. Your treatment applicator will place you on a 4 - 7 year maintenance schedule suitable for your area. Basic maintenance involves periodic removal of leaves and other debris from the roof and re-treatment with Sta Brite®R. Properly maintained, your cedar roof can last 50 years or more.
